Hosted by the University of Pretoria Genomics Laboratory (UPGL) | Supported by the ACGT
The ACGT supports the University of Pretoria Genomics Laboratory (UPGL) in hosting a Project Planning Workshop designed to build capacity and support researchers, students, and professionals working in genomics-related fields. This workshop aims to provide both foundational knowledge and practical guidance for planning and executing next-generation sequencing (NGS) projects.
Scope of the Workshop
- Fundamentals of next-generation sequencing (NGS), including an overview of the main NGS platforms and their applications,
- Essential bioinformatics components, including workflow planning and sampling strategies,
- Statistical considerations relevant to NGS project design and analysis.
Key Discussion Topics
- The importance of input DNA sample quality and quantity,
- Guidance on budgeting for an NGS project, using Oxford Nanopore Technologies as a case study,
- A real-world NGS sequencing project case study presentation,
- Interactive group discussions to help participants plan their own NGS projects.
This workshop is tailored to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to successfully plan and manage NGS-based research projects.
Time: Attendance required from 8h00 to 17h00
Location: Plant Sciences Complex, Hatfield Campus, University of Pretoria
