Project Can-Rise Day 2: Parallel Workshops & Research Platform Visits

Event Date

22 September 2026

Day 2: Parallel Workshops & Research Platform Visits

The second day of the event will include two parallel workshop. The workshops are designed to support practical research development, skills building, and engagement with peers and mentors across cancer-related fields. Participants will apply in advance for one of the workshop.

WORKSHOP 1: TRANSLATIONAL CANCER RESEARCH INCUBATOR

This workshop is intended for participants who are developing cancer research ideas and would benefit from structured feedback, interdisciplinary engagement, and support in shaping early-stage collaborative concepts. Participants will prepare a short research pitch and take part in a Dragon’s Den-style session, followed by research speed networking and collaborative concept development. Selected ideas emerging from this process may be considered for a competitive pump-priming funding opportunity after the meeting.

WORKSHOP 2: PRACTICAL BIOSTATISTICS FOR RESEARCHERS

This workshop will provide practical foundations in biostatistics and epidemiology for participants working in cancer and health research. It is designed to support researchers in interpreting, designing, and critically evaluating research studies.  The workshop will cover key concepts such as disease occurrence, rates, ratios, proportions, measures of association, epidemiological study designs, and applied interpretation of research scenarios. This is drawn from the Practical Biostatistics for Researchers workshop section in the Can-RISE programme.

RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE AND PLATFORM VISITS

The workshop programme will conclude with research infrastructure and platform visits at selected universities and research institutions. These visits will introduce participants to specialised facilities, technical platforms, and expertise that support cancer-related research
