You are invited to the upcoming NGS Open Day, hosted by the University of Pretoria Genomics Laboratory within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, in partnership with DIPLOMICS and the African Centre for Gene Technologies. The event will take place on 27 June 2025 at the Sanlam Auditorium, University of Pretoria, Hatfield Campus,
This event will provide a focused overview of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and their applications across a range of biological disciplines. Presentations will be delivered by both researchers and students, with emphasis on the operational aspects of various NGS platforms and data analysis workflows. Presenters will also offer practical insights into dealing with real-world challenges encountered during NGS projects. Programme aims to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of how NGS technologies are currently being applied to address key biological and environmental questions, while also promoting collaboration across disciplines.
Presentation topics will include:
- Phylogeography and genomics
- Metagenomics and biodiversity
- Human genomics and GWAS
- NGS applications in conservation biology
- DIPLOMICS and the 1kSA initiative
- Applying genomics to marine mammal taxonomy
